Mission Türkiye hosts Juneteenth event

The U.S. Consulate in Adana hosted Mission Türkiye’s first Juneteenth reception—a Texas-style barbeque with a multimedia educational component, June 1. Approximately 45 guests, who were early and mid-career members of civil society, business, and local government, attended to learn about the history of the holiday and enjoy the consulate’s first large-scale representational event since before the pandemic. Cultural Affairs Officer Gabby Price (in blue and red floral dress) shared her personal account of Juneteenth history and traditions in her family, which gave the consulate’s Turkish contacts a personal perspective on the holiday and an accessible means of discussing respect for human rights. The consulate’s press release was redistributed by a large group of local and national media outlets, including major national wire services.
