Department of State and NFL leaders discuss diversity and inclusion

The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the Secretary’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion hosted a discussion between Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, the Department of State’s chief diversity and inclusion officer (CDIO), and Jonathan Beane, senior vice president and CDIO for the National Football League, July 28. Acting Assistant Secretary of State James Walsh joined the discussion moderated by INL Senior Advisor Irvin Hicks, with assistance from Brittany Haworth of the INL Diversity and Inclusion Council. Both serving as the first CDIOs for their respective organizations, Abercrombie-Winstanley and Beane discussed the paths to their current roles, their goals and aspirations for their organizations, and the cultural changes they are striving to achieve. “We have a platform to really make a change,” said Beane. “I think we deserve to have it.”
