The Brooklyn-based band, The Hunterones, toured Nigeria through a Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsored American Music Abroad program, Jan. 17-Feb. 2. The Huntertones, who take pride in the American musical traditions of jazz, funk, rock, and soul, held masterclasses for emerging artists in Abuja, Lagos, and Benin City, and performed at venues in all three locations. The band also held outreach programs at schools and institutions working with marginalized communities. The Huntertones’ media engagements reached more than 3.5 million Nigerians and demonstrated the importance of cultural diplomacy as a significant tool in support of Mission Nigeria’s outreach to youth and marginalized communities.
