Jazz festival brings music exchange to Port-au-Prince

The Port-au-Prince International Jazz Festival (PAPJazz 2020), which emphasizes the existence of true jazz, was a breath of fresh air during the 14th annual celebration, Jan. 18-25. During the festival, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Michele Sison, introduced U.S. jazz artist Jazmin Ghent and her band—who were among the youngest headliners. Ghent both demonstrated and shared the message of what motivated youth can accomplish with grit and determination. Ghent and her band also performed at a packed, free, open-air concert at Quisqueya University. Thanks to a grant from Public Diplomacy, the band also conducted numerous student workshops arranged by the Public Affairs Section in Port-au-Prince. Other U.S. artists that performed at the PAPJazz 2020 included Dee Dee Bridgewater and Take 6.
